Cambion Application Tooling

Where specific application tooling is offered to insert, swage or crimp a  Cambion product the relevant part numbers appear on the catalogue page.  Swaging is the most common method of inserting and captivating solder terminals and connector pins to PCBs and panels.  To achieve this Cambion offers a small, manual, bench top swager - part number 435-3803-01-00-00 and a series of specific top and bottom tools - known as punches and anvils - that are easily fitted to it.

Cambion offers two types of punches - roll and flare.   Often both will appear in the recommended tooling information for a given product.   As a general rule a roll swage should be used where no soldering is to take place on the swaged side of the board and a flare swage where a post assembly soldering operation takes place.  Note that a flare swage is not expected to be more than finger tight prior to soldering - the mechanical strength of the joint is greatly increased by the solder fillet.
